Domestic Objects / Overview

Domestic Objects is a project I made from 1993-2002. It consists of single photographs and several series of images.

In the beginning I made the work in the studio and then I began to take the objects outdoors. This really energized the objects — what’s an ironing board doing at the water’s edge? If you read the text of Florence Burrill Jacobs below, you will understand why I made that photograph that resulted in this triptych to her. These are Florence’s typewritten text and a portrait I made of her from a snapshot. This historic material on Florence Burrill Jacobs came from the Maine Women Writers Collection at the University of New England. Much of my Domestic Objects photographs are now archived there as well.
